Very slick. These guys obviously know how to use the internet but thankfully they also know how to write. Its a blog/magazine ... or is it? It can be hard to define these things now days. Whatever it is I like it.

Initially the page is slow to load and the links to their facebook, twitter etc take you away from the main site but the fact is it doesnt stop you from clicking the back button and continuing to read through their very regular entries.

Ok they are posting any exclusive stories but they are putting together all the weird and wonderful news in a place that is easy to read.

Oh and if you guys are reading this (and I hope you are) .... watch Fringe for the love of God and include it in your TV section!

I kept meaning to review ParanormalKnowledge since before Thanks Giving but the entries are so regular I always had something new to read! Thats the beauty of the site, while its nothing amazing to look at it will always have something new and interesting to wet your appetite. It had a few great clips that made me fall in love with YouTube again too.

I say its not much to look at but thats not important, nor is the fact that with many of the entries its quantity or quality. I know all that sounds bad but sometimes you just need to be bombarded with plenty of everything ... and then some!

Western New York Paranormal is unfortunately a nice looking blog-style site. I say unfortunately because it hasnt been updated in 3 months and its a bit of a waste. I found the site when I was researching haunted objects and the article A Possessed Possession was quite good. Its obvious that this isnt their first site as it only goes back to September 2008 and I know the group have been around for at last 3 years.

The content is good and not just copied from other sites, the look is clean (its hard to find a bad wordpress template) but I'd just like to see more? Part of what I want to see is something about the individuals themselves.

CrypticMedia = Simple & Enjoyable. I could end the review there .... but I won't. Ok so they claim to be the first website dedicated to paranormal videos (ghosts, UFOs, cryptids etc) but they're not - I'm not going to let a little false claim like that stop me from enjoying a site that simply delivers awesome videos without a load of other stuff cluttering up the screen.

So what can they fix? Well if I was to meet them on the street I'd say "Hey, nice site. Would it be possible to bring up the size of the videos a bit?". When I do find a video on there that catches my eye I usually end up going to the CrypticMedia YouTube Channel to view it a bit bigger. I mean if the footage allows it then they should show it as best they can, right?

As thats my only problem with the site I have to compliment them on a nice clean template, and good use of color. You're pretty much guarunteed a new video everyday which may not be a huge amount but at least you can digest what you view.

Ok so, PARANORMAL WASHINGTON! Well to start off the New Year I decided to google Paranormal 2009 and this was the first site to come back that was reviewable (is that a word?).

Not a bad site to stumble across as it happens. Sure its a little slow to load at times (not my connection folks) but its only because they have everything. In some cases I would say they have to much but really they are using everything they have rather than just adding crap for the sake of it.

The graphics are nice enough, colors kept simple and the content is well written.

Anyway it looks like a site for a particular and localized community and in that serves them very well. I'd like to see a few more groups adopt this approach rather than aiming for global appeal and landing on their asses.

PROFILING THE UNEXPLAINED: REVIEW 073

Stepping away from Investigation groups for a bit now we have PROFILING THE UNEXPLAINED. Its going to be hard for me to find fault with this site as there has obviously a fair bit of thought put into it. The stories and content are great and not just a copy and paste of what you see on so many other site. The logo and color scheme really sets the mood.

Now I'll try to point out some issues:

• The fonts need to be consistant. When you look at the Poe article its in times when the previous is in helvetica.
• The Gallery is listed under the Forums top button and that seems a bit strange?
• "Investigation at Haunted Lexington Mansion" on the right is misaligned with the box behind it.

Basically some little bits are just being let go and while most wont notice (or care) they are simple fixes and worth doing.

The multimedia section is very good and has loads of content - not surprising for a 3 year old site. Maybe if they videos could be catagorized it would help those who dont have as broad an interest as t his site caters for?

Hawaiian Island Ghost Hunters: REVIEW 072

Hawaiian Island Ghost Hunters, I'll try to remain fair but the fact they get to live in Hawaii and I don't might swing against them!

Anyway, straight into it. Well first off I love the name (HiGH) and the main logo (see below). The site itself has some good qualitys but needs a bit of attention to bring it up to the standard I believe the team is at when it comes to investigations. Here are some things that need fixing:

• On some pages the links are on the left hand side and then at the bottom on others - keep the left side buttons. Consistancy of design/layout is VERY important.
• The top banner is 717x509 - some websites are that size and its a pain to have to either scroll a lot or drag out the screen.
• Once you go to the members page none of the buttons on the left work.
• The equipment page seems a bit messy?
• Get rid of that background image on the forums - its only at the edge but its distracting!

On the plus side there are things I really like:

• The color scheme is cool, easy to read.
• I particularly like the Case Log section - its very well done.
• The copy/content of the site is well written and puts the "feel" of the group across well.

The Paranormal Research Association of Boston, I'm glad I held of doing this review as the group has grown considerably in the last month of so. Obviously Boston has been crying out for a group of this sort as they have picked up 5 or 6 new members in that time.

Like its sister site PRAI it is a clean, no nonsense site with only a few minor tweaks needing some attention:

• The team images on the front page are on the large size and scaled, this is causing a slow load.
• On the News page some of the text is running off the edges of the template.
• Something is missing, I'm not sure what but maybe a podcast or similar would bring in the human element that this site lacks.

The imagery on the site isn't the best by any means but at least they arent over doing it and the well written content makes up for it. They avoid the gawdy and cliched that so many other groups rely on to draw people in.

Quabbin Valley Paranormal, I learn so many new place names doing this blog!

There is a lot on this website, possibly too much? It took a while to load any of the pages and my connection is far from slow. So much of it is animated gifs and poor quality images that I'd like to see these guys strip it down to nothing but text and really look at what is needed. By all means bring some personality into it but in this case "less is more".

I suppose some of it might stem from the fact its one of the biggest groups I've ever come across. It might be a case of everyone having a little input but its spoiling what could be a good site.

The pages they have are good but surely 18 pages can be condensed a bit? You see a couple of pages for requesting an investigation so there is unnessecery overlap. The equipment pages really says it all when you look at the fact that this guys have every piece of kit you'll ever need (and not need!). If all that is used on a typical investigation them they must spend most of the night setting up and most of their cash on batteries. It wouldnt be so bad if the images of the equipment were good but its all bitty and jagged edges.

The team appears to be made up of folks from emergency services, its hard to criticized great people like that but this site requires some attention ... stat!

As soon as I clicked the link I was sent for the South Eastern Ghost Research Association I though "Hey, didn't a review this before?" .... but no, I had not. The review I was thinking of was for Strictly Paranormal, so I presume its a free template - nothing wrong with that though.

Anyway I liked the first one and I like this one ... bar a few things obviously. The content is great (I'll get to that in a while) but the font size for the main body of text on the front page needs to come down a bit.

Now not every site or groups needs a logo as such - simple text can be just as effective. So with that in mind I have to wonder why people use banners like the one below - its near impossible to read and looks horrid.

My advice for this site is the same I give to most - keep the graphics simple, uses a limited number of colors and sort out the fonts you use into heading, subheading and body copy!

Anyway, like I said I like the content for this site and actually had a good read of the site. One bit I liked (but are not necessarily my views) is the following:

Ok so I dont blog much other than the reviews but sometimes its hard to resist. I get mails from people who want reviews, mails from people who like the blog ... and then I get mails from people who want to respond to my reviews - this one is a peach!

Now bear a few things in mind:

• He requested the review in the first place.
• He got a lot of hits from the review.
• My site (not this blog) is there purely to provide links to sites I review ... its good for the sites and of no benefit to me. I dont even have advertising on the site.
• My site isnt perfect (not by a long shot) and like I said in my last post has been hacked a fair bit. Obviously not by this guy as I doubt he'd be clever enough to do it. - Maybe I'll review my own site when its up and running?

Anyway after a well deserved break I'm coming back with more reviews and a move of the website. Why move the website? Well its been hacked a few times (disgruntled reviewee?) and I've been offered a free hosting etc with crowd in Ireland called RedTomato ... who says no to free stuff? So thats moving over fully soon and I can change a few things with the site ... nothing major mind you.

STRANGE STATE: REVIEW 068

I love reviewing blogs ... but more than that I love reviewing good blogs! Strange State is one of the good ones and arrived at my door following my review of SPOOKED.

Strange State covers a nice range of topics all of which the author writes about very well. Add to this the fact that he obviously knows design and you get a winning combination. He sources decent eye catching images to go with his posts. I also like that he keeps mostly to Oklahoma and he has definitely given me plenty of reasons to head out that way if I ever get the chance .... and to prepare for it I'll have to pick up a copy of his book Strange State: Mysteries and Legends of Oklahoma - available through the blog.

So now I have to hand out another well deserved full marks ...... I'm gonna have to find a site to be nasty about before I get a rep for being too nice!

A request from Para Patrol came in about a week ago and as soon as I clicked it I though "oh no" - sights with Tripod just throw up popups and annoying adverts.

I managed to look past all that though and while this site isn't going to reinvent the wheel it does have a couple of things I like. The logo for one is pretty funky, its got a whole Scooby-Doo thing going on that made me smile. I also like investigation table and would like to see that level of organization applied to the site as a whole. If these guys want to dramatically improve the site then do one thing ..... get rid of the adverts at the top and the bottom.

A GAY GHOSTHUNTER'S SNIPPETS OF LIFE ... AND THE AFTERLIFE

SPOOKED is a blog I used to read a couple of years back and how I ever lost track of it is beyond me? Anyway, thankfully its landed in my lap again and I can share it with those of you who may not have come across it before.

SPOOKED is one of the most interesting and funny blogs you are going to have the pleasure of reading. On top of that its got some great design elements and even though it has the restrictions of a blog you really don't notice them.

One thing I dont like (because we all know I have to find something, right?) is that the archive is right down the bottom on the right - having it at the top would make it a lot easier to go back through the almost 4 years worth of blogging. Ok so thats not really a big thing but if I didn't have that I'd have to start looking for typos!

Seriously, check it out and I predict a book in the works by the end of the year.

GHOST IN A BOTTLE: REVIEW 065

The say people will buy anything? I'm sure thats what the guys over at Ghost in a Bottle are hoping anyway! Am I having a laugh doing this review? Hell yeah! I mean some of the sites I've reviewed in the past have been laughable so why not do one that is a bit more forward with the fact its tongue-in-cheek?

The site itself is amateurish but hopefully when the cash starts to roll in they might pay for something a tad more professional ... I doubt they will though.

The product looks well presented for what it is and I may even pick one up for a laugh, its a novelty after all.

One correction that popped into my head as I read the warnings was this:

Original "If you open or break your bottle you may experience any or all of the following

• A voice out of nowhere.
• Muffled Moans and Groans for long periods of time during the day or night.
• Doors opening or closing slowly.
etc etc"

I'd fix that a bit with:

"If you open or break your bottle you may experience any, all or none of the following"

Still a bit of fun if nothing else (which I'm sure it isn't).

TNSpirit jumped the line for one reason .... at 20 days old its the youngest site I've reviewed yet. Its a brave step to request a review for a site thats hasn't matured a bit but sure in the game of running arounf scarey places in the dark bravery is one of the essential bits of kit.

The look of the site is fine, they put up a good body of stuff in the 20 days. Some issues I do have though are small but addressing them will tidy up the place a bit:

• Having images of text such as on the "Our Team" etc isnt great - bit rough looking.
• The equipment section would benefit from images of each piece.
• The home page starts off with their ads f or the myspace and the Ouija Petition. By all means include them but the first stuff you see should be more welcoming or informative.
• The forum button does nothing.
• No info for one of the team members.

No as I said its the youngest sites I've reviewed but looking at it they have obviously been investigating for a while. I like this, you see alot of groups making sites before they even go to a location .... never a good sign.

Death Is Only The Beginning, atmospheric name but damn they can be hard to fit into the banners!

Anyway its a decent blog but with not many posts. Luckily the posts that are there are well written and full of interesting information. I had no problem ready the whole blog in a couple of hours, now while its good that it held my interest it really needs to have more than 1 or 2 posts a month. Dont get me wrong I know how hard it can be to upkeep a blog but its a labour or love or its not worth doing.

I'll be checking back on it again in the hope of more good articles.

Ok so the whole site isn't Paranormal but for this review I will be focusing on the Paranormal section of Jim's Destinations Website.

Not a ground breaking site by any means but the guys been an Investigator of the Paranormal since the 70's and thats respectable. He also seems to know what he's at when it comes to electronics and while its not presented in a stylish fashion he's got some great builds for some handy equipment.

So while this site is ... well ... unattractive I would recommend that people who are serious about investigating show it the respect it deserve and have a good look around.

LATEST UPDATES

Okay so the latest batch of links have been added to the main site over at www.PARANORMALIZER.com nice to see there have been a couple of banner links as well the text links.

Since setting up the new site and system the review requests have been steadily coming in. It used to be a case of maybe 1 request every other week with the rest of the reviews being site I come across in my travels. Now its been 3 to 4 requests a week and while its more work for me its work I enjoy!

So I'm glad I took the step and have more plans for the future. Next big marker for me will be the 100th review, and while this seems a long way off if I can continue at the current pace its only 12 weeks away. Even in the week since the Google Adsense post the average views a day has gone from 49 up to 64 thats a big difference. Long may it continue!

So keep the requests coming, if you've been reviewed or dont have a site why not request one for a site you've come across?

S.P.I.: REVIEW 061

Seems that 99% of the sites I review are for Investigation groups there are a lot of them out there but some of them stand out as really being well put together. Sonoran Paranormal Investigations are one of those groups.

Lets get the bad points out of the way so we can look at why this groups is so good:

• I'm not nuts on the logo and even as it is it could do with some sharpening up.

• Some pages are very slow to load due to the size of images etc.

Thats all the negatives I could find!

So positives:

• The pages are nicely blocked out. Links to the left, main content in the middle and ads etc neatly on the right.

• This group covers everything it needs to and has a fair few bits that other groups should look at. The Protocols, References etc make may have alot of information that people take for granted but its helpful to have it written down.

• They handle themselves like a business (though I must point out they are a not for profit organisation) and this seems to be mostly down to Danielle but as the whole the group seem to work well together.

• Its easy to follow and the copy is well written. This is a group I wouldnt be surprised to see on the TV at some stage.

Well thats that.

PHANTASMA, a fledgling community with 61 members. I suppose we all start somewhere and they seem like decent people so I've no doubt their welcoming attitude and openness to discuss anything and everything means all they need is for people to stumble upon them - I guess thats why the requested the review?

I mean there isnt much for me to review as I tend not to make comments of the content and views of the sites I review ... unless something needs saying or I feel passionately about something.

Anyway, the look of the forum is pretty washed out and the cutout on the text of the logo is annoying (I had to make a new banner for this review). So I'd say get a better version of the logo, it doesnt need to be animated (hell I'll do it for you!) and lose the background image - maybe a solid colour? Its a forum and its the people that use it that make it what it is, you really dont need it to look overly designed.

People will come so just be smile and engaging, you really dont need much more for a Forum.

Well when they requested the review they did say it was a free website so I'm sure they are under no illusion that the site is anywhere near perfect.

The COGS (Central Ohio Ghost Squad) website, as I said, is put up on FortuneCity so that means Pop-Ups, Adverts and flashing Banners ...... oh the pain of it all. Even now I've had to close their page as its causing my browser to drag.

Obviously not everyone can go out buy a domain and put together a site by themselves but these guys really need to do something. I'd suggest even having a blog here on Blogger as you can put anything on here that they'd need and it would be so much easier.

I'd hard to give a fair review of this site because I cant really look at it or follow it ... but isnt take a review in itself? They ahve 4 different logos on the front page so consistancy needs to be addressed.

I would ask one question of COGS, are you actually making money from all the ads on your site? If not then why have them? If you are, then fair play. Personally I'd be happier making no money and having a site that people can use.

Its not easy to give a bad review but I've no doubts they'll take it as its meant.

S.P.I.R.I.T. - St. Louis Paranormal Investigation and Research Interest Team ..... man they went all out for that one!

Still whats in a name as they say? Well given that they put so much effort into the name, did they do the same for the site? Quick answer is ... yes.

Now this site isnt without its faults but I have to say I like it. Everything is easy to read and its easy to get around. They havent over done it with graphics and there isnt an advert to be seen anywhere.

Now Steve from SPIRIT asked specifically what I think can be improved so here it goes:

• Once you leave the home page there is no direct link back to it. Try having the banner at the top clickable?

• The text on the site overall is a little big. Have a look at it with it dropped a couple of point sizes. (I mean the body copy)

• The banners on each page mean the site has a fixed width, not a bad thing but you should use that to layout your whole site. The news and notes section on the front page does it well but the equipment page in centered up and leaves a lot of black on either side.

• Boxing up the EVP section and investigations section as you have with the notes on the front page might help.

• Gallery page, I love the content but try having the large images all the same size and the crops the same size too.

• You do not have a links page. Now thats hardly a sin but most groups do and the benefits of networking and banner sharing are great. Go to http://www.dnscoop.com/ and put in your URL .... see whats missing? Now try it with another groups site.

So thats it, I like it but I am a bit picky. I didnt really look much at the forum cos I see it as a weak point but something which is probably more for the group members anyway. Once the traffic starts coming in though you'll have to work on it.

For the record, name calling and threats on the internet is pretty useless and a bit lame. Still though at least when these keyboard warriors are in front of the screen they are off the streets. Every cloud.

GHOST STORIES: REVIEW 057

Ok here we have a blog thats all about the content. At first look its nothing special with not much thought gone into style etc but really that actually doesnt matter too much when the content is so well written. On further digging I wasnt surprised to see that the author is actually a writer.

She doesn't pull her punches either and I can definitely respect that and posting since 2004 you can tell her interest is genuine. There is a good bit of response to the blog with comments made on almost every post.

A personal favorite of mine would be the Question of the Week posts ... check it out.

One bit of advice ... drop the .: TAG BOARD :. ... nothing but trouble.

So its a lot easier for people to request reviews now through the new site but this one had me scratching my head? Its either a cry for help or they are simply looking to increase their hits.

I can't be 100% sure but I think its a shop for buying their T-Shirts and other merchandise .... I could be wrong? Anyway if that is the case then I think they need to go back to the drawing board because when you go to the Product Page is as about as inspiring as a gray woolen jumper (which thankfully they don't sell ... yet!).

The logo is ... actually, thats not a logo. The background image wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt tiled, like another review I did before this site reminds me of the old Geocities pages. thrown together with flashing gifs its painful to look at and doesnt even have the saving grace of quality products.

So as not to put me in a bad mood for the rest of the night I will end on 2 good points:

• The name made me laugh
• I've found some good sites linked from their page

PULSE-TV, this could grow to be one of my favorite sites.

OK so why do I like this site so much? Is it:

• The great domain name?
• The affective and well executed logo?
• The easy to follow, functional and well thought out site design?
• The original and high quality content?
• The lack of distracting ads and gifs?

Its all of the above, simple. There really isn't a whole lots to say about this site but seeing as I have to try be constructive, I'll try.

Ok so the site is still fairly new and because of the lack of videos it has me kind of wish that I didnt come across the site for another few months or until there where a couple more projects available. On the site they say that more are in the works and I'm quietly confident that, unlike some sites that vanish as quickly as they appeared, PULSE-TV will come up with the goods.

They provide their own banners etc but unfortunately none of them suit the size/format that I use ... pity.

More content would have gotten this site top marks.

Ok so when I started doing this blog I decided to follow the crowds a bit and add Google Adsense. I've never actually received any money from it (you need to get up to $100 before they'll send a check) so I was planning on ditching it for some more specific ads ... that was before I looked at their reports.

The reports are worth as much as the money to me in that it allows me to see how many page impressions I get on the blog. I've hardly breaking any records but having being going for the last year I have an average of 49 clicks a day with the most being on 08/05/08 (yesterday) at 174.

Will I be keeping Google Adsense? Yes. Will I ever make a cent from it? Probably not!

T.Az.P.S .... well who can blame them for using that name? It may not be original but its smart if they want to increase their profile by mis-association. They clear it up on the home page anyway.

So on to the review of The Arizona Paranormal Society.

Apart from an ugly logo the site is fairly average. White text on a black background is the norm for sites like this (Hell I use it myself a fair bit) and its easy enough to read. They have everything they need on the site, members area, equipment page, gallery etc. They have a fair amount of investigations to their name which is great to see. If you're not going to have a great site then you have to bring up the points in other areas .... and TAzPS do just that. All the images in their gallery can be viewed hi-res which always helps, the members page has plenty of info and I couldnt find a sinle broken internal link.

So thats it. Its worth a look just to check out a good investigation group. At this stage they are not going to change the logo as its on merchandise etc so there is not much they can do ... apart from maybe add a forum?

The group is very good, the site is ok.

Another Investigation group today and are far as groups go them seem nice enough ... can I say the same of the site? Lets have a look.

The UPRA site isn't awful but its not very good either. The red text on the mauve background is hard to read and once you go past the home page the buttons on the left are white text out a 50% tint of the mauve ... impossible to make out! Easy fixes but then theres more. The Gallery page has no buttons and they appear to have just been forgotten about. So now that you're stuck on the gallery page you may as well look at the photos ... if you dont mind scrolling about 4foot to the right if you want to see them.

The home page is fine except for the colors and if the other pages followed the same template it would be a huge improvement. The actual content of the site is fine, they aren't missing anything and the TV is a nice touch. Finally, a bit of info on each of the team would be nice ... as well as not refering to them as staff.

Ah, the blog style website, how I enjoy them! Demontales is a fairly young site having only popped up last October put already its found its feet. The logo/banner is strong even if I don't really "get it", it does look a little out of place with the color scheme of the site but it doesnt discract from the content too much.

The content itself is tabloid and some days that just what I want. What is nicely different about this site is that it also features a forum which while its nothing new its not something you see attached to many blogs. As for the forum? Well it seems to be thriving especially given its age. Its not often I add a site I review to my main bookmark folder but I cant help but think that Demontales will throw up a few stories/videos that I might otherwise miss. This site doesnt really have anything that needs fixing - I'm sure its doing exactly what the owner wants it to do.

And off we go on the first review since the new site was launched!

Paranormal Research Association of Ireland, sounds official.

So I guess I'll start with the design of the site and move onto the content later.

First off .... someone please do something with that banner! Its on nearly every page and looks like a poor quality scan of a poor quality print of a poor quality screen shot - seriously people this is your identity! Its not a particularily nice logo to start with but you can barely read the tagline "Truth through Science" and thats the bit I actually do like.

They have some well taken photos dotted about the site but personally I dont like how they are positioned i.e. centered amongst the text with not effort to uniformally format them. The gallery section is also a bit of a let down as it has very little content for a group thats been going since 2004.

The main scheme of the site is fine, bar some poor graphics the overall look does come across as professional. The sheer amount of text on the site makes it appear like an official body. So with them apparently leaning towards the official/professional/scientific side of the paranormal scales here is what really makes it hard to bare:

What is with these graphics? They look as if they have been poached from a few different sites with now consistancy of style, they are so out of place.

With all the text and little in the way of photo/video/audio it really looks like a case of all talk no action? A good read of the site clears that up as they do appear to have done a fair bit, unfortunately as a visitor we dont get to see the fruits of their labor.

There are alot of pages within the site and maybe its busier than it needs to be? Some of the links are broken such as the links off the merchanise page and the guestbook.

The site does seem to have a good forum and there's some pretty good discussion on it. The thing about forums though is that they are the product of all the people who use them not just the site owners - so they cant really take credit on that.

If I was to give a few simple points of advice they would be:

• Fix the logo/banner
• Frame the pictures used and get some uniform size style were possible
• Look at who fonts are used on the site i.e. sizes, colors. Choose a set font (size, colour, style) for headers, subheaders, body copy and captions.
• Look at the site map - too many pages.
• I spent so much time scrolling on this site, a simple starter paragraph for long bodies of text with a "read more" button means its not so hard on the eyes.
• Stick with the template of the site, I actually like it.

So that might seem like a harsh review but I only picked so much because I think it could be a very good site.

So why have I been so quiet the last month? I hope the answer is obvious and that its been worth the trouble!

The new look site is coming online in the next couple of days and above is a sneak peak.

A few changes have been made to how it works and a few inactive sites have been dropped. The blog will change soon too but nothing big.

Anyway the main change in the workings of reviews etc is as follows:

Sites scoring 7/10 or higher will receive a banner ad on www.Paranormalizer.com as well as priority listing over on the review blog. We see this as a way to both reward sites for their good work as well as give those site who have just fallen short something to aim for. All sites reviewed are listed as text links in order of date of review.

Would love feedback and look forward to reviewing a few sites I've had waiting around.

Review No.50 and I'm serving up LOADED PARANORMAL! This site is not a romantic meal for two its more of a quick burger from McDonalds. I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest, it kinda reminds me of an 80's Space Invaders Arcade game?

Its definately in its early stages with a couple of dozen members and not much on the content side of things - not really a site I'd visit again unless I got a heads up that things had changed. I hope I come across it again in 6 months or so and find it has calmed down on the graphics and has grown into an interesting and booming site.

For now though this site lacks any reason for me to check back on a daily basis.

United Paranormal Investigations, this site takes me back to the days of Geocities ... and they were not good days. Normally I can focus on the design if the content is weak or vice versa but what can I do when a site falls down on every possible element?

Is ugly and if you were to take away all the tacky flashing images you'd be left with very little content ... and this site is over 2.5 years old!

I really dont like giving negative reviews but thankfully their article "The Curse of Amateur wannabe Ghost Groups" made it very easy for me not to give a crap about what they make of this review.

Time for another blog! UFO MEDIA is only a couple of months old but man does this guy know how to blog! Over 120 posts in 60 days is pretty impressive .... if only I had that much energy.

As I've said before UFO wouldn't be my main area of interest by any means but I can honestly say that I enjoy this blog. Its like a platter of tasty food where I can pick up a bit and have a taste. If I dont like it I spit it out and move on to the next piece.

Video seems to be a huge part of UFO MEDIA and sure why not? All I would ask is that the author check out Disclose.tv and see how that content suits - supporting the paranormal community is what its all about after all.

Design wise its a blog and theres really nothing too it but it really should be on the top of peoples list when it comes to quick, easy to digest bits of interesting info - its almost like having a personal assistant who clips newspaper articles for you.

True Ghost Tales, not a site I had seen before but have to say it after being asked to review it I got a good run and reading all the stories on it.

Its a nice easy-to-read site with a good layout, color palette and fonts. Sure its got ads on it and a few cheesy animated gif files but they aren't that hard to ignore and once you start reading some of the stories on there its hard to stop.

Its covers as broad a range of topics as you can get and the sections are well broken down, not every topic is to my own personal taste but thats the great thing, its easy to avoid the bits you dont like and focus on what you do.

Its not a ground breaking site but it doesnt really have to be. If I am being honest I have to say I went looking for negatives and was hard pressed to find any. That said the Casper section (as much as we all love that guy!) is a step too far with regards to content that just isn't needed not to mention that the youtube content is copywrited material ... but like I said I really had to get picky to find a negative.

The site also has a blog but despite having blog-like content it was missing something - it just doesnt feel or look like a blog.

All in all a good site with interesting content, perfect if you are in the mood for a leisurely read.

ULSTER PARANORMAL: REVIEW 046

Step up to the plate Ulster Paranormal! Or rather Connect 2 Ulster Paranormal as it is on the site.

Anyway first off I'm not sure I get why there is a difference between the site name (Connect 2 Ulster Paranormal) and the URL (Ulster Paranormal)? I mean I can understand it in cases where a decent or appropriate domain name can't be gotten but in this case simply having it as Ulster Paranormal is definately the best choice.

Its a better site than I thought when I first glanced at it before at the end of 2007 and it has a fair bit of content. The white on blue looks good and its a color palette that always makes me think of architects drawings. That said the choice of heavy/bold mismatched fonts is really working against this site.

Looking at the site without reading you would not know it was about the Paranormal, thats not nessecerily a bad thing as some sites really go over board with spiders webs, full moons and ghostly gif files. In this case though it does lack a bit of atmosphere.

The content is well written and the site covers enough ground. Apart from being a place for them to display there thoughts and findings it also offers people the opportunity to go along on an investigation themselves. I strongly encourage this as there are too many groups how close themselves off from the public except when it comes to seeking people to be in awe of their findings.

Its not my favorite site but then again I visit so many I have very high standards. Its a grand site though and in its early stages, here's hoping that more experience in running a site will lead to this one growing.

Just remember when viewing it to scroll through all the buttons on the left as its not too obvious hwo much there actually is on this site!

Its not often I do this but I must add a side note: As small a place as they say the internet is, and smaller again the paranormal community I was even impressed with myself to spot a picture of an Irish investigator (Anne McKinestry - I hope I spelt that right) who's groups site I review a few months back. From what I know the scene in Ireland isn't huge so I'm sure they cant help but bump into eac other now and then.

Oh exciting times! 6th (from 6thsensitive.com & 6thsensitive.blogspot) tipped me off to a new group - fresh meat! So here we go.

After Dark Paranormal Research are a "build from the bones up" type of group/site that looks like it gonna do a good job. They aren't jumping in with screams and hype, which is very refreshing. Taking things at their own pace they are sort of group that will do what they do whether someone is watching or not.

Now to the website:

Its a blog, simple as. No real design except for the banner which is clean and not unpleasant to look at. The content is good, easy to read and I'm liking the youtube clips but obviously would prefere people using www.disclose.tv and supporting the Paranormal Community.

I don't agree with everything they say on there site, Paranormal Terminology etc but who says I'm supposed to?

Its good and it'll hopefully get better.

Ok so its time to get around to some requested reviews, and I'm starting with an MSN Group page - Spirit Circles to be exact.

First of all let me say you are going to have to set aside an hour to view this page ..... its pretty full! Also even though I am reviewing the MSN Group this crowd have all the bases covered with myspaces pages, forums, chat rooms - you name it, they have it.

I have to say this really isn't my cup of tea and seems to be aimed at women and teenage girls, not that thats a bad thing. It seems to provide everything its members could ever want and at the end of the day thats what its all about.

For me though its cluttered, too flashy and almost impossible to read. The content seems to be there though, I just cant bring myself to read it while everything in the background either slows down the loading or threatens to give someone an epileptic seizure.

As much as I hate giving negative reviews ......

Found ANYTHINGGHOST.com recently and have to say I'm enjoying it. Cute logo but generally a poor web experience. That doesn't really matter though as its the podcasts that are important here, once you download them and pop them on your MP3 player all is good - its made my train ride alot easier to bare. If you haven't seen it before now you are in luck, the archive is just sitting there with all the old shows - I'm 7 shows in and its not getting boring.

Lex (the host) comes across as a genuine guy with a real interest. He's laid back, easy to understand and doesn't make my ears bleed like some over-the-top presenters. This show also preforms a great service in that it is getting real people's stories & experiences out there.

Seeing as its not about the site I think he could afford to look at throwing some advertisements up, I know I would click on them. Being that these are free to download and listen to I think this site is a real find.

There is no denying the guys over at KAPS are decent folk, they took the last review well and dropped by. Now that they have sorted the domain name and done some updates its time for me to drop by again.

The thing is when I dropped by ... I didnt like it. Sure the content is still good but how its presented is now just a little bit sloppy. Stuff just isn't aligned and the centred text and background image reminds me of the days of geocities back in the 90's.

These guys had no problems originally apart from the Url.

My suggestions:

- Lose the background image
- Put a set structure/grid in place
- Get a blog which can be updated quickly to keep peoples interest between investigations
- Decide on a set colour scheme and fonts

Sorry if it seems harsh guys but you guys are better than your current site!

So to get away from Ghost & Investigation Groups I decided to go review a site on one of my favorite subjects - BigFoot! Unlike UFO, Poltergeist, Mothman and other paranormal areas this creature seems to draw feelings of affection and an almost romantic aura for those who dip into the subject.

The BigFoot Field Research Organization site has been going for quite some time and unlike alot of others it is still updated regularly.

The site pretty much has it all - research, news articles, facts and it was great to see a map which represents documented sightings over the last number of years.

Its also an admirable resource for gathering together all the well known and lesser know images and video footage - it really is the only Bigfoot site you need to visit!

Of course there has to be bad points and unfortunately this site does fall down in a few places. There are links within the site that led to nothing. The "Reports Database" link is dead, as is the link back to the homepage here "BFRO Home".

I know content is vital on a site like this but so is ease of navigation, which this site lacks. A over style or design element would really improve the site too.

Along with the design and navigation it would be great to see a forum added, especially at a time when they are so popular and serve as a place were enthusiasts can get together and talk no matter what their geographical location.

I would loved to have given this site a score of 10 but hopefully I'll be stopping back in the future and can give them those extra 3 points.

KAPS, another new group website. This one is doing it right, not running before they can walk. Its so clean and well laid out but thats not simply because they have very little content. It looks like even when they do start adding to it that the formate will cope well.

Their section on investigations looks good, I especially liked their EVP from Waverly ... good catch guys. I even signed up to the forum which is rare enough simply because I view so many sites.

Anyway the hits counter shows just how new this place is but heres hoping we see this place taking off.

One change I see they have coming is the domain name ... domains and hosting are cheap enough now days and well worth the money. Obviously I would recommend a blog thats editable by the members of the group - its an easy way to post quickly and can get a growing group alot of attention.

On a funny note thought its called KAPS (Kentucky Area Paranormal Society) but the URL says KentuckyRegionalAreaParanormalSociety ... KRAPS! A name which really doesn't apply here.

NIPS ... don't you just love the name? Makes me think of nipples! Anyway its Northern Ireland Paranormal Society coming in for review No.40.

Yuck! I hate the logo ... someone delete their copy of Photoshop ASAP.

Actually apart from the hideous logo the site is pretty good. I must say I am a fan of their approach and can even point out that I have seen this group (or rather a few of its members) develop from a few groups back.

They've done the right thing is polishing up the group since its last incarnation but I see some phrases and statements slipping in that kinda take away from the appealing casual approach of the past.

"We use the most up to date Digital Voice Recorders on the market today to capture EVP" - they don't need to make statements like this to impress people, especially when they use pretty much the same equipment as most groups. I know whats available to people and I know that the top of the range gear is out of most groups budget. Be happy in knowing that you are doing the best with what you have and that no one expects ground breaking science.

The site is nicely put together and all the clips (audio/video) are good clean quality. The spacing and layout of the pages aren't difficult to follow. If I was to give any advice it would be to keep doing what you are doing but please change that logo!

Ok so its not very often I am sent a link to review, I normally go searching myself, so when someone suggests an up and coming website I have to take a peak.

Ok so at first glance Leinster Paranormal has got a nice simple design but not much content .... at second glance its still got a nice simple design but not much content. Still I will review it for what it is.

First off I have to say I do like local groups with local names. It means they have set themselves a manageable area rather than trying to take over the world! With no crazy or wild claims this group seems to have a relaxed and level headed approach do what they can to gather information without jumping to conclusions .... they present what they find and let you judge for yourself.

One thing that is missing that I usually like is a page with a bit about the groups members. Its nice to know a bit about the who & why and makes it all the more approachable. The forum is a nice touch because it gives you the chance to put questions to the members, who seem open to taking peoples ideas and comments onboard.

A bit more about the investigations would be good too rather than just presenting bits and pieces they do find. Sometimes its good to here what has been reported to have been experienced and following the investigation what wasnt found.

So thats it! I guess we site back and watch this fledgling group grow ... or not.

City of the Dead: Review 038

Not my typical review but just back from a break I thought I'd review some of what the city of Edinburgh has to offer!

I've done Black Hart's City of the Dead Tour a few times now and to be honest I'll do it everytime I head back to Edinburgh. Having read Jan's book The Ghost That Haunted Itself after my first trip I knew this walking tour had potentially alot more to offer than the usual Theatrics. You can find out all about their tours and the Mackenzie Poltergeist on City of the Dead as well as other tours by Black Hart.

The website itself is there purely to give info about the tours, the experiences of those you give the tours and those hundreds of lucky people who've gotten more than just a bump in the night.

With a gallery showing injuries & peoples own accounts you know there's more there than just people trying to make a living from the dead.

Design wise its functional and nice enough to look at but a bit of consistency with the quality of the graphic would be nice.

ParaCom: Community Watchdog .... good idea. There's a feel to it I really like and other parts that might make me worry. Watching the prices of venues in a great idea and could really make a differnce. What does worry me is that ParaCom could come across as a bit elitist and push out the enthusiasim of some of the newer rough around the edges groups.

The site could do with some work and I'd even do up some proper banners for them myself but I suppose whats important is what these guys are aiming for. I can see their logo on alot of sites in the future if they play it right.

I have to say its great to see ALIEN HUB taking steps to make their site even better!

I reviewed ALIEN HUB site back in March and it got the high marks it deserved. The thing is they continue to do what they can to make the site better for the people that use it. A step up to using vBulliten will go a long way as this site gets bigger.

These guy need some more attention if its gonna grow and start really challenging the likes of GhostVillage with regards to numbers. So lets all do what we can!

AllAboutGhosts.com: Review 036

Allaboutghosts.com pitches itself as a resource for on line accounts of ghostly experiences represented in pictures, EVP, video clips and stories etc.

The community aspect of the site centres around an on line community at http://spiritkeep.net, a newsletter and a “contact us” section.

The site lives and dies on its bank of pictures and videos. Many of the links are broken, so trying to review their EVP, Photos etc is fruitless. The site owners apologise for this on the front page, but the lack of content renders the web site useless to anyone trying to explore the paranormal.

It is a pity as the general idea is reasonably good, there is a good breakdown of topics and listing of possibly haunted locations but once again the links don’t work.

The site attempts to promote some level of up-to-date content to entice users to visit the site on a regular basis.

Are all good ideas but once again the links are broken and the site fails to deliver. There are a number of advertisements on the site and these links still work, I take it that if the promised content was maintained, the commercial aspect of the site would deliver some revenue.

Aesthetically the site appears dated, but the logo is original.

Overall if the owners return to work on the site and finish what they started, this could be good resource and focal point for both posting and reviewing paranormal content, but as it stands it is a poor quality site with a bit of “watch this space” thrown in.

Its not often I will choose a website for a psychic but statements like "Jane's stomach reacts to spirits" are going to get my attention!

I'm not going to review her or her site based on one claim of course, to be honest she's around a while and deserves a bit more respect.

Fact is the site is very well put together. It doesn't reply or either the old spooky feel or the usual psychic design of clouds/doves/angels etc. Its put together like a website for a tv show, and why not Jane has had her fair share of media attention.

It offers a bit more than the usual medium/psychic page and thats probably got something to do with the fact she does investigations (free of charge) on a fairly regular bases. It covers a bit on EVP, UFO, seances etc but the site needs some updating, not to mention the abandoned blog.

So where as the belly ghost detector might not sit well with me overall its a good site.

At 34 reviews I'm a little behind where i would have liked to be but things are definately going well.

My plan now is that when I get to 100 reviews I am going to send out an email to all the sites I've reviewed. Those that reply will be put into a draw for a prize ... which is as of yet undecided.

I'll aim to have 3 of these draws a year which means me getting my finger out and doing at least 300 reviews a year!

Encounters With The Unexplained, as this blog is like that quirky friend you had that everyone like and your parents wanted you to marry. Alot of blogs (this one included) don't get to many comments posted on them but thats not the case with Encounters With The Unexplained. There seems to be a fairly friendly little circle of blogs that pop in on each other and this one is part of that.

Being that its a blog theres nothing groundbreaking you can do with the layout or design so it comes down to content. Encounters With The Unexplained is an easy read with a nice mix of subjects from around the world. How the stories are posted and put across has a cheery feel to it, even if the subject matter is dark.

Pleasent, unoffensive and easy to read.

The Greater Pittsburgh Paranormal Society™ kicks ass ..... simple as that.

Ok so for the actual review I will have to write a bit more but the above is a statement of fact. Apart from looking a million times better than most other site this one is so well written. In this case I am not just reviewing the site because the groups approach to the area of the paranormal and investigating is, and I dont say this often, second to none. Even other great groups could learn from these guys.

Sure the website is still under a year old but its got everything in place, content is something you build up over time. They have the team, the passion, the know-how and now they have the website.

Paranormalizer.com will be watching these guys for the 2008 Paranormal Awards.

This years, at the Ghost World Conference, we will see the first ever Paranormal Awards. These are the first awards by the paranormal community for the paranormal community. There are 6 catagories and I've already cast my vote. You can vote online HERE.

There are some good names up there and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Its great that something like this is finally happening and I hope it is an incentive for groups & individuals to push harder and go the extra mile.

I'm going to put a foot forward and voice my support for Cape and Islands Paranormal Research Society in the catagory of Best Ghost Hunting Organization of 2006. I reviewed their website a short while back and have looked closely and what they do and how they do it. CIPRS are well deserving of the award and in my opinion this is possibly the most important catagory.

The New England Society of Paranormal Investigators website has only been around for a few months but the group itself has been going since 2000. With 7 years under their belt their claims are pretty impressive:

No paranormal investigative organization has been more successful than N E S P I in the capturing of and communicating with the unseen through EVP.

Like I said its an impressive claim but I am not sure what its based on? Hopefully once I mail this review to the team someone will stop by with a comment and fill me in.

The website itself is neatly layed out and functional, though the banner is a mish-mash of styles a bit busy. As for content, I was pretty impressed with the main area of focus: EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon).

When compared with what else is out there New England Society of Paranormal Investigators currently isn't anything to scream about. I am sure with the amount of experience the group have they will be building this up over the coming months and I will definately be having a look in again.

Well with the void in life still left empty from ParanormalNews I went looking to fill the hole.

SupernaturalNews.com is a new one on me, in its 3 years I'm only coming across it now? Set up a very easy to follow blogish site it ticks all the boxes with regards to style and layout. As with Shrouded Reality they just need to move the title text down a tad.

Its not about big articles or ground breaking research, the hint is in the name, its about NEWS and they report it quickly and with a smile.

Add SupernaturalNews.com to your book mark, have a quick look regularily and you'll stay in touch with anything paranormal related which hits the headlines.

This is site for the Northern New York Paranormal Research Society. They host the standard content for this type of site but with some added content. They maintain very good photo gallery section; the content here is well worth looking at.

The team seems to be active and the web site provides and interesting record of the team’s movements. The site has a direct simple look to it where people can request membership and request an investigation via e mail.

There is a chat where non members and members can enter to discuss paranormal topics, unlike some sterile chat environments the NNYPS have set aside 20:00 every Sunday (USA time) to have discussions. They also provide phone numbers of some team members if someone wants to discuss paranormal topics with them directly (I’m unsure of the wisdom of this).

The NNYPS also have an on line radio show. Anyone can log in and listen to their current show. Unfortunately they don’t seem to have the space to store an archive of their previous shows; however old shows can be requested via e-mail.

The community aspect of this site is its strongest feature; there is an active on line forum providing a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers and there are enough stimuli to keep regular users coming back.

The weakest feature of the site is the aesthetical appearance of the home page and the site in general. The introduction page is attractive but it leads to a home page that has a dated appearance regardless of how functional it is.

Shrouded Reality: Review 029

ShroudedReality.com ... nice name, it can be hard to come up with a decent domain when alot of the good ones are taken and wasted.

Anyway it seems like these guys are doing the rounds of getting themselves noticed so I thought I may as well grab them now while they are fresh!

First off the look of the site is one that I could refere to as either common or popular, its beccoming the standard format for so many sites now. The important thing I suppose is what you do with it though right? Besides the banner is nice and "mysterious" and if the font was moved down just a touch it would be even better. Just to note also that Papyrus is quickly becoming "the" Paranormal font.

On to the content:

Its a newish site and still growing so content isn't quite knee-deep yet but they have all the bases covered with regards to sections and general bits-&-bobs. I do like that they are keeping upto date with grabbing News stories off google, its not difficult but so few sites bother to keep up with whats happening.

Being that ShroudedReality.com is a community & forum based website its success will be down to how popular it becomes. There's not much the owners of the site can do about this other than keeping it functioning, fresh and crossing their fingers. There are alot of sites like this popping up but ShroudedReality.com isn't going over the top with cheesey graphics to I'll keep checking in on my rotation of similar sites. It won't be the next Ghostvillage but with a guiding hand it could be up there with AlienHub.

I'm getting a fair few mails too which is great but it would be nice to see more comments left publically on the blog. As well as looking at sites I'm trying to get to as many blogs as possible. A huge amount of groups simply don't have the resources to build up sites so if I ignored blogs I would even begin to touch the Paranormal Community Online.

Cape And Islands Paranormal Research Society ... what a long name!

Anyway, this is a group who, despite having a website, aren't really web based. Thats a good thing for a group as its not all about getting content up online and exising purely in a virtual world. They are a local group with local concerns, appearing on local radio and investigating in the surrounding areas of Cape Cod. This means they dont over stretch themselves and can concentrate on doing a good job.

Apart from Investigation and radio these guys also hold Open Lectures Its obvious they are in it for the long haul, which is a real bonus seeing as so many groups pop up and disappear just as quickly now days. Even alot of those that do stick around tend to spend more time reading and writing about the paranormal than actually experiencing it - not the case with CAIPRS.

The actually website is also very good. Some of the banners for the sections (see below) are great quality, its just a pity the whole site hasn't been tied into a similar style. The sections themselves are (some coming soon) are well sections as not everything is thrown in together.

With Paraquest.org.uk you get same type of thing you see on a million other websites, nothing
special. So why am I even reviewing it? Well when a name of a groups pops up in the news you think for a split second that they must have something going for them ... right? Nope!

Don't get me wrong, I respect that they are out there doing what they do but some things on their site just rub me the wrong way. Their news article which popped them into the spotlight was about some video footage with an orb in it ..... I hate orbs! But it seems I am not alone, Paraquest's own Rick Smith says on the site:

... I really believe that orbs have nothing to do with the paranormal. Orbs simply seem to happen when
taking a picture with a digital camera in the dark with the flash on.

Why is it then that a group who believe that there is nothig paranormal about Orbs have an image gallery of 162 photographs, 108 of which are Orb photos?

The extra credit these guys deserve isn't for their website, which I don't find appealing, but the fact that they organise really face-to-face events in the form of their PARAtalks.

The I WANT TO BELIEVE blog is right up my street. Its not just a regular blog with random wafflings, it actually manages to be both casual and informative. The entry on Spirit Photography had the corners of my mouth turning skyward. He's obviously someone with a interest in the paranormal but zero interest in bullshit (applause).

The look of it is "almost" good, the effort has been put in to make it a bit different to standard templates (which include my own!). The annoying things are the jaggy text images (seen here) and the fact that the main body of texts only seems to start a good scroll down the page - what is with that big blank white area?

Its witty and definately worth a read, though if the blogger wants to make an effort on the look of the site they should go all or nothing - the content will carry it as long as the graphics dont distract people too much.

Now it would just be nice to see the blogger return after a years absense!

The Midnight Tales Blog (or rather Horror Fitness) is a great find. A collection of all things scarey, from stories to images, this blog will make you check the locks before you go to bed.

The tales are well presented and I can't help but enjoy how they are written. The bloggers english isn't perfect but this works to his advantage. His closeness to Transilvania almost adds a sense of romance to this blog.

Alot of the stories will have a familiar feel to them as there are variations on them in every corner of the world. That said if you are going to read them anywhere I would suggest the Midnight Tales Blog as your first port of call.

ParanormalNews.com is a site I used to look at once a month a couple of years back and just lost track of. To be honest despite the fact that its ticks most of the boxes it just lets us down by not updating often enough. Since the start of 2007 its just not been up to much.

If you haven't seen it before its worth a visit and reading back over their content from the last few years is something that will keep you there ... until you run out of updates.

Its not a case of there not being any news they just dont seem to be keeping up with it. Like I said, it ticks the boxes. Great design, well laid out, well written and easy to read.

Looking around for a half decent location which had a webcam I discovered that there aren't really any that fit that discription. I don't know just how many people out there have webcams pointed at their utility rooms and washing machines but it definately makes the search disheartening!

One website which actually made me look at the cam for more than 3 refreashes was LochNess.co.uk I mean at least when nothing is happening I am looking at a nice lake as opposed to some guy sitting in his makeshift office.

Its an awful website thats impossible to read but it was webcams I was after not content so I can try not to focus on the extremely poor layout and myriad of advertisements.

You can't help but get into it, the slightest shadow gets you excited but chances are you will never see Nessie from either of their 2 cams but the 2 sheep I watched in the field for 5 minutes may well end up in the belly of the beast.

The Werewolf Page is just pure indulgance for me. Its an area of the Paranormal that many see as pure fantasy, being that few people claim to have had real life experiences with these amazing creatures. Personally I have never met a werewolf but there is no other monster in the world of horror that I have ever wanted to be. Other people can keep there vampires, with the sexual undertones, for me its hair, claws and howling at the moon.

The Werewolf Page doesn't make claims that Lycanthropy is a real phenomenon. They put together a website which has everything from fan art to full online movies. Apart from the hollywood side of things they have some fantastic articles on the myths and folklore surround werewolves - these include a ritual to become a werewolf!

You can snub the idea of men turning into wolves and running around howling at a full moon but there is absolutely no denying that The Werewolf Page is an extremely well put together website.

When you type UFO in google you get 39,900,000 replies - thats alot of content to trawl through if you are just looking for the "facts". There are discussion forums like ALIEN HUB you can visit to meet like minded people and discuss ideas, theories and experiences. Its a fantasic resourse but when I resently wanted to find out more about a specific area I didnt have the time to go through pages of discussions nor did I have enough information to ask the question I wanted answered - so off I went in search of somewhere that laid it all out.

UFO whipnet.org just happened to be the place where I found my answer. After getting the info I wanted I clicked on another report ... then another and another. The site is one of the most stylish designs I've come across, its cool, uncluttered and easy to navigate.

Sure it has ads on it but when you put time and effort into a page sometimes the little you get back takes some of the hit.

I know some very nice, sane and easy going UFO enthusiasts and even they can't get to annoyied when I say that the area of study and research has some absolute nutcases and even scarier hardcore believers. Whoever it is that does UFO whipnet.org is not one of these people. The writing takes time to laugh the subject (and itself) while maintaining a high level of respect for the material. I'm not ashamed to say I got a giggle out of the Gilmore Girls reference in the article The Speed of Light.

With a nice collection of images, news articles, documents and articles UFO whipnet.org is a website that alot of those 39,900,000 Google results should look at for guidance and inspirantion.

The one thing that ParanormalMovies.com does do well is highlight just why a site like Disclose.tv is needed.

The Bell Witch Website: Review 019

I like when people take a very specific topic and build up a website around it. Thats exactly what Patrick Fitzhugh has done with The Bell Witch Web Site.

He's obviously a guy with a real passion for the subject and handles it very well. He takes a fair minded approach to a case which in the hands of another could go seriously Hollywood. That said I am a fan of the movie The Bell Witch Haunting, rarely have film makers done such justice to a supernatural story. Even An American Haunting, as good as it was, only loosely based itself on the facts.

The site is easy to get around and easy to read so in that there are no failings. A bit more of a design element to it would be nice but Fitzhugh is a researcher and an author, not a designer.

At the end of the day if you want to learn all there is to learn about a fasinating and real case of Paranormal happenings then check out The Bell Witch Web Site.

PARANORMALIZER says .... "it's gonna be HUGE!"

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Disclose.tv is going to be a success, for lots of reasons. The main reason is that its very well done, following the formula of the likes of YouTube. As well as that its badly needed. Trying to find anything on YouTube with regards to the Paranormal can be a minefield, with so much repetition and Paranormal used as a tag on so many clips that simply have nothing to do with the subject.

Its hard to judge the site itself because its open to being judged on the content which is down 100% to the people who use the sight. As far as design is concerned its not really important for a project like this as long as its clean, functional and easy to navigate .... and it is.

For the idea and the execution Disclose.tv has no faults.

Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators: Review 017

I decided to snoop around the neighbourhood for more good blogs, man I trawled threw some real crap but its worth it when you come across ones like Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators. I'm new enough to blogs but had I known people like these guys had been doing it for almost 2 years I would have jumped on sooner.

Ok they have alot of photos of Orbs but the difference is that all the content they have is their own. I'm really sick of seeing the same youtube clips on every site claiming that many of these obvious hoaxes are genuine.

There's nothing ground breaking about the blog but then again does there need to be? For many a blog is just like a diary, not a research log. Its a pity though that I couldnt find any trace of an actual website for these guys though.

Point to them for going for so long with regular updates and they obviously get out and investigated regularily - would be nice to see them have a place where they can go into it all with more detail.

BERKSHIRE PARANORMAL GROUP: Review 016

First thing you have to notice about BERKSHIRE PARANORMAL GROUP is the stylish logo but its not all beauty and no brains for this group. The site is well laid out and easy to follow with a place for everything and everything in its place.

As a group they seem to be very professional and clued up, it might help that two of the team are cops because it they definately have an air of authority about them. That said they dont come across as stuffy or hardcore scientific types who ignore the spiritual side of things - the team also includes a Reiki Master for a bit of balance.

As I've said the site looks good. And despite having a dream head quarters they havent been lazy and played that one card, these guys get out their and Investigate. All the reports are well written and no detail is left out.

BERKSHIRE PARANORMAL GROUP are what good investigating is all about.

My only pick would be that despite them having a team page I could find anything on how they got together and a bit more insight into why they do what they do. Not much can be done to improve the site and I'm sure it will only get better the more they investigate.

Cheers for the reply. I'm glad you took the criticism as it was meant - constructively. Like I said you have a great site with some interesting articles and good Investigation write-ups.

My tips for a clear, neat and attractive site would be:

1) Keep all body copy text the same size, colour and font throughout the website.

2) The same applies to Headers and subheaders. Use them to highlight the articles etc.

3) If you are going to use a black or textured bakground then choose a coloured text that suits. Blue or Red on black is very hard to read as the are a similar tone. White is best but a clean yellow or green can really work too.

4) Use animationed gif sparingly.

5) Pick a theme and carry it through your website. Don't just from a scientific look to a gawdy Halloween party look or vice versa.

Remember its all about the content at the end of the day so try to make it as easy to read as possible.

Sue Darroch and Matthew Didier's Paranormal Blog: Review 015

Wow ... what a long title! My first suggestion would be to swap the "and" for a "&" ... but thats just me.

Anyway on to the review.

I've been looking at blogs for the simple reason that they tend to get updated alot more frequently than websites - meaning more upto date info. They also have the benefit of the bloggers being able to just jot down their thoughts meaning wit get to see what they have to say before they can think to much about it.

Sue Darroch and Matthew Didier's Paranormal Blog has that freshness but still the posts are well thought out and are up there with any magazine articles you might read on the subjects they cover. One of my favourite posts on their blog would have to be The Blue Ghost Tunnel from December last year ... its a cool story. The Bloody Mary article is also very well written though seeing as I dated her for a while I'm more than familiar with just how scarey she can be.

So as far as Blogs go Sue Darroch and Matthew Didier's Paranormal Blog is well worth a regular glace at least. Being that its fairly specific to Canada it doesn't lose focus and should be checkout be anyone planning to travel there .... you might find more interesting sites than the usual tourist traps.

Looking around for some more stuff to throw on my mps player I came across RadioCrackle or more precisely NIGHTWATCH.

Being part of RadioCrackle its just one show but I have to say its the best they have. I mean getting China O'Brien on to talk about the Paranormal is a supernatural feat in itself!

Its a pity they dont do more with it as a site though, I mean the logo above is catchy and would lend itself to some nice design. So rather than view their website HERE I just go straight to the PodCasts HERE.

Anyway, with a classy, atmospheric intro and constantly serving up the goods NIGHTWATCH is well worth a listen.

Oh and another bonus for NIGHTWATCH is that you can actually download all the shows which makes listening alot easier.

Strictly Paranormal: Website Review 013

There's alot to like about Strictly Paranormal, for starters these guys have done alot of Investigations and always write them up well. Obviously I'm loving the colour scheme - green and black ... could it get any more stylish?

Anyway as a group you have to respect that they are out there doing it but as a site theres just too much bugging me. The animated gifs, flashing text and MASSIVE FONT SIZE (in places) takes away from some genuinely interesting content.

If they kept the look of the banner I've used above then this site would go from looking like an amateur scrapbook to kicking around with some of the big boys of the UK paranormal scene.

Ok well its not really a website but a channel on YouTube. Still, TheMajorReview is hilarious! I don't just go around looking at sites that take themselves seriously, as long as a site or group does what it says on the tin then thats cool with me.

TheMajorReview do MostHaunted spoofs and they do it better than anyone else I've seen. Some serious talent here that I can see getting snapped up if they keep going on this project.

I wouldn't normally post a video but what the hell?

STRANGE BUT TRUE: Website Review 011

About time I reviewed a Paranormal Podcast site so I may aswell start with one I am a fan off. Strange But True has been going for a couple of years now and thankfully neither the team who put it together or the listeners have gotten bored yet. This might be down to the fact that they will cover any topic that falls into the realms of the Paranormal, from Goat Suckers to White Noise.

The great thing about this show is that Steve & Jo head out on Investigations regularily so you get fresh reports from all over the UK.

Website wise theres not much to comment on, the logo is cool and the sites easy to get around.

So as far as I am concerned if you want to listen to a good Paranormal based show on a regular basis and really get into it - check out The Strange But True Radio Podcast.

HAUNTED VOICES: Website Review 010

Taking EVP as being one of the most popular and easily accessable areas of research in Paranormal, I decided to look at a few sites dedicated to it.

After trailing through loads of poorly put together sites I found Haunted Voices. Being that it is mainly a discussion forum (as most sites seem to be going down that road) it leaves itself open to having the quailty of its content being in the hands of its members - good & bad. That said it does have alot of interesting pieces on it and its good to have so many examples on a single site.

The discussion and analysis for the most part is very good but I found it hard to concentrate with all the flashing ads and animated text.

In an area clogged up with alot of crap Haunted Voices does a fair job of pulling it together in a manageable format - not a task I'd envy!

HAUNTED DEVON: Website Review 009

Clearly the people over at Haunted Devon are very professional. The site is very well made, clean design and when these guys go out Investigating they are even covered for insurance ... not many groups bother with that even though I've heard some really horror stories in my time.

Apart from having a good site it seems Haunted Devon actually get out there and do alot of Investigations - infact they don't just go out and do them they do them very well. They write up a about what they expect before a trip and then write up good, informative reports.

One of the things I like about how they do it all is that they dont take an exclusively scientific or spiritual approach - they apply both equally. That said I get bored of seeing the same equipment being used by so many groups.

I found myself saying "Well obviously!" when reading alot of what they say but sites shouldnt just be aimed at people who are well versed and experienced so thats a fault with me and not their content.

As a group they seem to know their stuff and as a website I can't fault it - I even like the sound effects they have playing and I usually hate that crap.

6thSensitive: Website Review 008

I found www.6thSensitive.com via his blog here on blogger but its the actually website that catches my attention for now.

Nicely designed but nothing ground breaking as far as websites go. The content of the site however is well laid out and makes for an interesting read. Being that its an individual as opposed to a Paranormal groups it reads very personally. Despite it being Irish it doesnt play up the old 'Land of Myth & Mystery' nonsense ... not a shamrock or leprechaun in sight!

The Gallery contains original photographs which demand that you look closer and actually give them some though - unlike the Orb shots you see on 1000s of other sites.

He has some good ideas on the subject of the Paranormal but over all the site lacks content. Hopefully he'll continue to update the site regularily.

DARK TRUTH: Website Review 007

On my travels I was lucky enough to come across DARK TRUTH a blog dedicated to World News, Conspiracies, Paranormal, Occult, Ancient History, Magick, Supernatural, Spiritual, Metaphysical, New Age, Mysteries, Anomalies & more.

Anyway what I like about DARK TRUTH is how intelligently it is written, especially the Conspiriacy theories it covers. When it comes to this type of stuff the is alot of repetition at the moment with everyone still jumping all over 9/11. DARK TRUTH's post about the Bombing of the Rainbow Warrior was especially enjoyable and informative.

I have to drop acouple of points for design and layout but there is no faulting the content.

With the amount of sites out there dedicated to the Paranormal my biggest problem is picking which ones to review. I spend alot of time surfing and researching the Paranormal myself and come across a few gems, alot of duds but mostly average sites with nothing special about them.

So I started looking at sites that do reviews and came across John Chow. John Chow dot Com is a blog that helps you make money online. He will link to you if you do a review of his blog. Now thats a sweet deal as even though I'm not interested in making cash I am interested in traffic.

So here's hoping that, even though its not paranormal related, John Chow dot Com starts pushing people my way.
